Evangelist Catherine Byrd

July 11, 1942 — May 31, 2026

Evangelist Catherine "Cathy" Byrd was born on July 11, 1942, in Kosse, Texas, to the late George Dickens and Fleter Mae Taylor Dickens.

A devoted woman of God, Cathy lived a life marked by faith, compassion, service, and unconditional love. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mentor, and friend whose presence touched countless lives throughout her journey.

After graduating from Carver High School in Midland, Texas, Cathy embraced her entrepreneurial spirit and successfully operated several businesses, including a clothing boutique. Her creativity extended beyond business as she enjoyed writing poetry, music, and plays, using her gifts to inspire and encourage others.

Her love for God and people led her to establish T.O.M.B. Ministries, where she ministered faithfully within the prison system, sharing hope, restoration, and the love of Christ with those in need of encouragement.

Cathy was a faithful and dedicated member of River of Life Church under the leadership of Bishop Robert L. Nichols Jr. For many years, she compassionately served as the leader of the Bereavement Ministry and faithfully coordinated the church's annual Family & Friends Day celebrations.

Through her dedication, love for God's people, and steadfast commitment to ministry, Mother Byrd provided comfort, support, and encouragement to countless families during some of life's most difficult moments.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, George Dickens and Fleter Mae Taylor Dickens; her siblings Clarence Dickens, Herman Dickens, Stella Warren, Daisy Dickens, George Dickens, Dorothy Lane, Annie Pearl Smith, Betty Jackson, Benny Lee Graves, Larry Graves, Charles Graves, and Jerald Dean Graves.

On May 31, 2026, God called His faithful servant from labor to reward.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her siblings Robbie Dickens, Carl Dickens (Cindy), James Dickens, Bill Dickens, Sharon Dickens, Martha Dickens, Joyce Cooper, Linda Baily (Boyd), and Porta DeLoach (Charles); her children Deidra Pickett, Clenard Berry (Diahn), Scott Berry, and Brad Deason; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who were blessed by her love, wisdom, prayers, and presence.

Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
