Connie Roberts-Kelley, affectionately known as Relay, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
September 14, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White in Dallas, Texas. She was 66 years old.
Connie was born on December 2, 1958, in Midland, Texas, to Norman Roberts and the late
Ruth Ellen Hudson. She grew up in Midland, where she attended Bunche Elementary, Alamo
Junior High, and graduated with pride from Midland High School as part of the cherished Class
of 1977.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Connie spent 33 years in the oilfield industry as a pipeline
operator for Chevron, Mesa, and Plains All American.
Connie's life was rooted in her faith. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Macedonia
Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Horace Doyle and Rev. Otis James Archie. She
later became a devoted member of Mt. Rose Full Gospel Baptist Church under Pastor William
C. Palmer. Throughout her journey, Connie was actively involved in ministries such as the
Sunshine Band, Sunday School, Training Union, and the choir. She especially loved working
with children-teaching, guiding, and encouraging them in drill teams, Bible drills, and essays.
Her joy was found in nurturing "the little people," whom she lovingly called her heartbeats.
Her passion for music and worship led her to become a member of the United Spiritual Singers
at its inception, where she sang and directed a group of young believers on fire for Christ.
Connie will be remembered for her elegance, quick wit, and determined spirit. She had a
creative eye and loved making bows, tutus, and beautiful event decorations. Above all, she
cherished spending time with her family. To know Connie was to feel her warmth-whether as a
sister, cousin, mother, grandmother, or friend. She embodied love, loyalty, and joy.
Connie leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her daughter, Shadée Johnson; three
grandchildren, Parker, Cree, and Saiah Johnson; her father, Norman Roberts; sisters, Cynthia
Maclin and Carol (Tyrone) Patterson; brothers, Norman (Gloria) Roberts Jr., Carlos Roberts, and
Craig Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Connie was loved deeply and will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know her
