Gregory "Greg" Jon Alexander died peacefully at home on September 20, 2024 in Midland, Texas at the age of 71.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Charles Alexander, his mother, Greta Alexander and his brother, Allen Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Tracy (Fowler) Alexander; his nephew, Aaron Alexander, his nephew Charles "Chas" Alexander, his wife Katie and their children, and his niece, Alyson Baltazar, her husband Dector and their children.
Greg was a fourth generation Northern Californian, born on February 25, 1953 in Chico. Throughout his life, he spent many hours working and volunteering in community and professional theatre, beginning with his first play in sixth grade. After graduating from his hometown high school, Greg served six years in the U. S. Navy as a Nuclear Qualified Machinist Mate, First Class, Submarine duty, Assistant Leading Petty Officer, Machinery Division and received the Good Conduct Medal.
With the aid of the GI bill, he earned a BA in Theatre Arts from California State University at Chico (CSUC). His first professional job included sweeping out the theatre on mornings after performances at the Sacramento Theatre Company. While working with the Sacramento Music Circus, he married Tracy Fowler on August 24, 1988 on that company's stage in a midnight double ceremony!
In 1994, the couple moved to Midland, Texas where Greg began work at the Midland Community Theatre (MCT). Over the next 17 years, Greg worked his way up from Scenic Carpenter to Master Carpenter to Asst. Technical Director to Technical Director/Shop Foreman before retiring in 2007.
In addition to his many technical skills, Greg was an accomplished actor who received the Best Actor of the Year Award in 1983 at CSUC. He continued to share his talents onstage at MCT in shows like Born Yesterday, To Kill A Mockingbird and Out of Order. Greg was also a proud "Summer Mummer," who volunteered many hours as a stage manager for the annual MCT fundraiser, where he was recognized with the "Mummer of the Year" award in 1996 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2016.
Greg's many loved ones will remember him as a kind, gentle, funny, smart and dedicated friend and devoted husband. What they might not know is that Greg was a lifetime member of the Chico-Leland Stanford Masonic Lodge #111 and that he published a blog on Facebook titled Wrath of the Cat that chronicled his relationship with Tracy's cat. Another interesting job he held as a young man was at Masters Music and Vending in Chico, CA where he worked on and repaired jukeboxes, pinball machines and video games.
