Elder Herbert Lee Crisp Sr.

Elder Herbert Lee Crisp Sr. was born on August 29, 1949 to Bertha Lee and Paul Crisp Sr.,in Roscoe, Texas. Herbert spent the majority of his childhood in Midland, Texas, where he attended Carver and Midland High School. He developed a love for baseball at a young age, playing throughout his childhood and carrying that passion into adulthood.

In 1970, Herbert married his beloved wife, Betty Joyce, whom he had met while they were in high school. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with five children.

Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972, including serving in Vietnam. Following his military service, he began a career in the oil and gas industry, where he worked until his retirement.

In 1994, Elder Crisp began what would become his true passion, pastoring at White's Chapel COGIC in Midland, Texas. Through his ministry, he touched the lives of many and devoted himself to serving God and his community.

Outside of his work and ministry, Herbert enjoyed golf, fishing, and cooking barbecue for his family and loved ones. He had a comforting spirit and a heart that made everyone feel welcome. He was affectionately known as the "neighborhood dad," a reflection of the love, guidance, and care he freely gave to those around him.

Herbert will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, congregation, and all those whose lives he touched.

Elder Crisp was reunited in heaven with his beloved son, Torval Crisp; his parents, Bertha Lee Crisp and Paul Crisp Sr.; his sisters, Pauline Crisp, Bertha Mae McCollum, and Addie Faye Smith; and his brothers, Paul Jr. Crisp and Elvin Earl Crisp.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Crisp; his children, Shekeyshia Gainey, Herbert (Peggy) Crisp Jr., Lachette Crisp, and Latonda (Marcelo) Beduschi; his grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind a host of other family members, friends, neighbors, and his church family, all of whom will continue to cherish his memory and the love he shared with them.
