Linda Mae Nelms

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Mae Nelms, who peacefully departed this life on July 24, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on May 12, 1948, in Marlin, Texas, Linda was the beloved daughter of Freddie Nelms and Elijah Bigham Nelms. She later made Midland, Texas, her home, where she built a life centered on faith, family, compassion, and service to others.

Linda attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and proudly graduated from Carver Jr.-Sr. High School with the Class of 1966. She had a heart for children and dedicated her life's work to nurturing and educating young minds. She faithfully served as a teacher at Midland Christian Daycare for fourteen years before continuing her passion for early childhood education at First Baptist Child Development Center in Midland until her illness.

Known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness, Linda touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She treasured time spent with her family, loved working crossword puzzles, and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her love was genuine, her encouragement sincere, and her presence brought comfort to countless lives.

Linda leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving sisters, Bettie Nelms and Ruth Hemphill, both of Midland, Texas; her brothers, Joe Nelms of Fort Worth, Texas, and Clarence Nelms of Hemet, California; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie Nelms and Elijah Bigham Nelms; her sister, Joy Williams; and her brothers, Charles Nelms and Larry Nelms.

Though our hearts are deeply saddened by her passing, we find peace in knowing that the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire generations to come. Her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and compassionate heart will never be forgotten.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Home Hospice, her devoted caregiver and friend Ida, her nurse Lori, social worker Betsy, and Dr. Robyn for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Linda throughout her journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Linda's honor.

Linda's life was a beautiful example of love, grace, and selfless service. She will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.
