Born and raised in Midland, Tonya dedicated more than 30 years of her life to working in childcare. Caring for children was more than a career to her-it was a calling. Throughout the years, Tonya touched the lives of many students and families, leaving an impact that will continue to be remembered by those fortunate enough to know her.

Tonya was a devoted wife, having shared more than 30 years of marriage with her beloved husband, who preceded her in death. Above all else, she was a loving mother to her two sons, Joshua and Jonathan. Her boys were the center of her world, and she was deeply involved in their lives. She treasured the simple moments spent together-going to the movies, watching their favorite shows, including Young Sheldon, and simply enjoying quality time as a family. Her love for her sons was unwavering, and she would do anything to make sure they knew how deeply they were loved.

Tonya also shared a special bond with her Pomeranian terrier, Jasmine, who was her faithful companion and best friend. Jasmine brought her comfort, companionship, and joy, and was a cherished part of Tonya's life.

Tonya is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, William Raymond Gates, and her mother, Barbara Carol Roberts.
